Orlando, Fla. – The Nebraska football team conducted a two-hour practice in full pads on Wednesday morning, continuing preparations for the Capital One Bowl with its matchup with South Carolina less than a week away.

Offensive Coordinator Tim Beck, who earned his degree from Central Florida in Orlando, met with the media following practice and said he’s been encouraged by the team’s effort and focus.

“It went good,” Beck said of Wednesday’s practice. “Our guys are practicing really hard and our retention’s been good, our tempo’s been good. I’ve been pleased. Obviously, we have a couple more days to shore up some of the finer details of the game, but I like where we’re at right now.”

Beck also talked about the challenge of facing South Carolina’s stout defensive line, led by All-American defensive end Melvin Ingram. The Gamecocks rank fourth nationally in total defense and are second against the pass.

“They’re good,” Beck said. “They’re great pass rushers. They make plays. Those guys do a good job and when they’re not making plays, it’s because they’re eating up blocks and their linebackers and safeties are making plays. They’re well coached and they do a really good job within their scheme.”
